Purple Kiss ♡ traces the passage of Homo sapiens towards a posthuman condition through shamanism. The future of humanity rests with a shaman known as HornyHoneydew. On the appointed day, when Venus shines brightest in the sky, they perform a ceremony, the culmination of prolonged spiritual preparation, to transfer human souls into the bodies of a new form of humanity. Struggling to survive on a dying Earth whose toxic atmosphere increasingly resembles that of Venus, Homo sapiens dreams of renewed prosperity through its transformation into posthuman beings.
The work does not frame the posthuman as the outcome of technological evolution. Instead, it reveals how the human condition becomes destabilised at the intersections of gender and sexuality, religion and science. Shamanism functions here as an alternative epistemology that disrupts the rationalist narratives of modern progress.
By appropriating the sonic and visual language of K-pop music videos, Purple Kiss ♡ exposes the dualistic and heteronormative structures that have shaped Korean society. It presents gender as a fluid and overlapping process that continually moves beyond binary categories. In this context, the posthuman emerges as another name for the already fractured condition of the human in the present, rather than as a species belonging to the future.
〈내가 조금 더 설렐 수 있게 ♡ Purple Kiss〉는 샤머니즘을 통해 호모 사피엔스가 포스트휴먼의 상태로 이행하는 과정을 그린다. 인류의 미래는 호니허니듀라는 샤먼에게 달려 있다. 금성이 하늘에서 가장 밝게 빛나는 약속의 날, 호니허니듀는 오랜 영적 준비의 정점인 의식을 거행해 인간의 영혼을 새로운 인류의 몸으로 옮긴다. 금성과 점차 닮아가는 유독한 대기 속에서 죽어가는 지구를 견디며, 호모 사피엔스는 포스트휴먼 존재로 변형됨으로써 다시 번영하기를 꿈꾼다.
이 작품은 포스트휴먼을 기술적 진화의 결과로 설정하지 않는다. 젠더와 섹슈얼리티, 종교와 과학이 교차하는 지점에서 인간이라는 조건이 어떻게 불안정해지는지를 드러낸다. 여기서 샤머니즘은 근대적 진보의 합리주의적 서사를 교란하는 대안적 인식론으로 기능한다.
〈내가 조금 더 설렐 수 있게 ♡ Purple Kiss〉는 K-pop 뮤직비디오의 시청각적 언어를 차용해 한국 사회를 형성해 온 이원론적이고 이성애 규범적인 구조를 드러낸다. 동시에 북미의 여러 원주민 문화에 고유한 투스피릿 정체성을 비롯해 이분법을 넘어서는 젠더 개념을 불러오며, 젠더를 고정된 정체성이 아닌 유동적이고 중첩되는 과정으로 제시한다. 이러한 맥락에서 포스트휴먼은 미래에 출현할 새로운 종의 이름이 아니라, 이미 균열되어 있는 현재의 인간 조건을 가리키는 또 다른 이름으로 나타난다.
