Sacrificium unfolds as a speculative ritual environment in which bodies lose their familiar boundaries and begin to exist through contact with others. Drawing upon the fictional cosmology of The Succulent Gospel, Dew Kim imagines creation as a process of grafting, penetration, and proliferation. Bodies do not descend from a singular origin or develop towards a complete form. They emerge as composite beings, shaped by what enters them, what escapes them, and what they exchange with their surroundings.

Throughout the exhibition, religious architecture and BDSM apparatuses operate as parallel technologies of the body. Both organise posture, breath, attention, and submission, yet the relations they produce are never fixed. Kim brings their visual and spatial languages together to examine how yielding control can intensify sensation and how vulnerability can generate new forms of agency. Consent, anticipation, and responsiveness become forces that continually rearrange the positions of bodies within the space.

This process takes material form in When All Flesh Becomes Light. A metal structure resembling a distorted pipe organ stands between an instrument, an altar, and an anatomical body. Latex membranes attached to it repeatedly tighten and loosen as air moves through the work, alternately concealing and exposing bodily impressions. The sculpture appears to breathe, but its breath is produced through pressure, constriction, and mechanical repetition. Solidity and softness become interdependent, and the boundary between structure and flesh begins to dissolve.

The surfaces and structures across Sacrificium bear evidence of friction, adhesion, swelling, compression, and leakage. These material conditions suggest a body that survives through permeability rather than self-containment. Like succulent plants that regenerate through division and retain moisture within damaged flesh, Kim’s bodies multiply through their openings and wounds. Their incompleteness allows them to connect, mutate, and continue.

Sacrificium proposes a world sustained by bodies that cannot remain separate or intact. Desire moves between them as a physical and organising force, producing relations that are unstable yet enduring. Within this environment, transformation occurs through exposure to another body, and community takes shape as a shifting arrangement of pressure, breath, and shared sensation.
