Still Life Overture

Still Life Overture brings “Ceremony,” a chapter from the autobiographical narrative When the Water Blushed, into the theatre. When the Water Blushed originated from Dew Kim’s MA dissertation, Dionysia: A True Story About the Relationship I Have Had with My Body, and was subsequently developed into a publication. Drawing on an experience of unexpectedly being placed inside a car trunk during BDSM play, Still Life Overture moves between autobiography and fiction, combining spoken text, soundscape, and objects on stage to evoke the moment when the pursuit of play abruptly turns into fear.

〈정물화 서곡〉은 듀킴의 석사학위 논문 「디오니시아: 내 몸과 맺어온 관계에 관한 진실한 이야기」에서 출발해 출판물로 확장된 자전적 서사 〈물이 붉어졌을 때〉의 한 챕터 〈세레모니〉를 극장으로 소환한다. BDSM 플레이 도중 예기치 않게 자동차 트렁크에 들어가게 된 경험을 바탕으로, 자전과 픽션의 경계를 오가며 맹목적인 유희가 돌연 공포로 전환되는 순간의 감각을 낭독과 사운드스케이프, 무대 위 오브제를 통해 펼쳐낸다.
