Working across sculpture, installation, and moving image, Dew Kim explores the intersections of queer embodiment and faith, religion and popular culture. His new work The Succulent Gospel brings together the human rib and the reproductive processes of succulent plants, rewriting narratives of creation and origin through a queer lens. Cast beyond normative boundaries, bodies fashion themselves, lean on one another, and trace the contours of a new community. Like succulents taking root and multiplying from severed surfaces, these bodies transform lack into a condition of growth, bringing forth an alternative story of origin through relations of mutual penetration and interdependence.
