The Succulent Communion (2026) extends the fictional cosmology of The Succulent Gospel from sculpture and installation into food, participation, and collective ritual. Developed for Artist’s Lunchbox: Generative Table at the Seoul Museum of Art, the project transforms the act of making and sharing food into a ritual through which the Gospel is interpreted, embodied, and transmitted.

At the centre of the project is the participatory performance Honeydew and the Succulent Apostles. Dew Kim appears as Honeydew, the fictional author of The Succulent Gospel, while participants temporarily assume the role of its “Succulent Apostles.” Their mission is to spread the values of the Gospel not through written language, but through cake. Drawing on its narratives of queer creation, propagation, bodily transformation, and interdependence, each participant translates the Gospel into an edible form of their own.

The project borrows the structure of Christian communion while shifting its meaning away from the repetition of a single doctrine. Scripture becomes a recipe open to interpretation, apostles become participants, and communion takes place through acts of making, decorating, eating, and sharing. Rather than preserving an authoritative version of the Gospel, each interpretation alters it, allowing it to multiply through different bodies, materials, tastes, and desires.

The Succulent Communion thus develops The Succulent Gospel into a collective performance in which belief is enacted through the body. Like succulent plants that regenerate from severed surfaces and propagate through fragments, the Gospel survives by being divided, consumed, transformed, and passed from one body to another. Around the table, communion becomes a process of mutual transformation, and each newly made Gospel becomes the beginning of another.
